On Keeping Time In Cookstown

Written for the Cookstown 2027 Calendar frontispiece, produced in partnership with the Cookstown & District Chamber of Commerce.

Cold wind blows it seems just days after I was at the splash pad with my sons. Seasons pass so quickly, more noticeably out here in the country, and the changes are clearly marked in nature. Blustering frost and blooming flowers and unbearable sticky heat and bold orange leaves in bursting succession, year after year.

Here, in Cookstown, nearly 180 years after this little crossroads became Cooke’s Town, we are reminded how much can change in a year and how much can endure. These streets have seen many seasons before our own.

This is a special project because time affects us all, even our dear town; with this calendar, we can all keep time together.
